Christine Lepera Named Litigator of the Week by The American Lawyer

October 22, 2015

Christine Lepera was featured in The American Lawyer’s Litigator of the Week series for helping score a big win for music copyright defendants in the battle over Jay-Z’s "Big Pimpin'."

On Wednesday, October 21, Christine and other defense lawyers convinced a Los Angeles federal judge, to dismiss a 2007 lawsuit alleging that the Jay-Z hit “Big Pimpin’” unlawfully sampled from a now-deceased Egyptian musician. Following five days of trial that featured testimony from both Jay-Z and music producer Timbaland, U.S. District Judge Christina Snyder found that the plaintiff, Osama Ahmed Fahmy—the Egyptian musician’s nephew—lacked standing to sue.
