Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp Expands Entertainment IP Litigation Practice in LA with Addition of High-Profile Lateral Group

Leading copyright attorney Aaron Moss anchors three-attorney team

March 17, 2025

Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP (MSK) announced today that it has significantly expanded its nationally recognized Entertainment and Intellectual Property Litigation practice with the addition of a prominent three-lawyer team led by Aaron Moss, one of the country’s preeminent copyright and media litigators. He is joined by partner Josh Geller and associate Hannah Shepherd, who both come to MSK from Greenberg Glusker LLP.

“IP litigation is both a core strength and a strategic priority for our firm,” said Greg Hessinger, Chair of MSK. “The addition of Aaron, Josh, and Hannah represents a significant milestone in the continued expansion of our national entertainment practice. They are among the most respected litigators in the industry, and their arrival further solidifies MSK’s position at the forefront of high-stakes IP litigation for the film, television, and media industries.”

Moss brings nearly three decades of experience as a trusted advocate for studios, production companies, digital media platforms, video game publishers, and other content creators in copyright, trademark, right of publicity, idea submission, and contractual disputes. He has also successfully argued high-stakes First Amendment cases before district and appellate courts nationwide, defending media clients against defamation, invasion of privacy, and other efforts to restrain speech.

A nationally recognized authority on copyright law, Moss is the publisher, editor, and author of Copyright Lately, a widely read legal blog selected by the U.S. Library of Congress for inclusion in its archive of authoritative and culturally significant websites. His legal analysis has been cited by courts, scholars, and major media organizations, and he is ranked by Chambers USA as a leading media and entertainment litigator. Moss earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School.

Moss on joining MSK:

“MSK’s entertainment expertise is unrivaled, and the high caliber of its national IP litigators makes this the ideal home to expand our practice,” said Moss. “The move strengthens our ability to serve film, television, and media clients, and, together with MSK, positions us as the go-to team for high-stakes copyright and media litigation.”

Geller is recognized for his strategic judgment and effective advocacy, representing major film and television studios, production companies, and content creators in high-stakes copyright, trademark, and business disputes. A former litigator at Irell & Manella and partner at Greenberg Glusker, he serves as Secretary and Trustee of the Los Angeles Copyright Society. He earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School.

Shepherd joins as an associate, bringing a fast-growing reputation as a sharp and strategic entertainment litigator. She has been instrumental in handling complex IP and contractual disputes in both state and federal courts and is a frequent writer on cutting-edge entertainment law issues. Shepherd earned her J.D. from the University of Southern California.
