USC Intellectual Property Institute

March 19, 2024
2:20pm-3:30pm PST

Christine Lepera is speaking on the panel "Where is this Story Going?: Trends in
Copyright Litigation in the Ninth Circuit" at the USC Gould School of Law's Intellectual Property Institute on March 19, 2024.

About the panel...

For years, Hollywood studios could count on a robust review of substantial similarity issues for copyright cases at the pleading stage in courts in the Ninth Circuit. Recently,  there is a perception that the Court is shifting away from early dismissals. This panel will discuss what this means  in practice, whether there is a difference in cases involving music versus literary works, and what may lie ahead for copyright litigation as a result.

Speakers:

Patrick M. Arenz, Partner, Robins Kaplan LLP
Christine Lepera, Partner, Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP
Hon. Paul J. Watford, Partner, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati
