Aaron Moss Mentioned in WIRED and Deadline

May 12, 2025

Aaron Moss was mentioned in the article, "Two Men Claiming to Be Trump Appointees Blocked From Entering US Copyright Office," published by WIRED on May 12, 2025.

The articles examine the U.S. Copyright Office's unusual release of a “pre-publication version” of its long-awaited report on generative AI and fair use, just one day before the abrupt dismissal of Register of Copyrights Shira Perlmutter.

WIRED referred to Aaron’s blog, Copyright Lately, to help explain why the timing and format of the report’s release raised eyebrows within the legal community.

“The 108-page report was a ‘pre-publication’ version, which means it wasn’t yet finalized. It is not customary for the US Copyright Office to release this type of document, according to copyright lawyer Aaron Moss,” the article noted.

The Copyright Lately blog was also cited in the Deadline article, "Chaos At The Copyright Office: Trump’s Firing Of Register Shira Perlmutter Came After AI Report’s Release, Leaving Industry Wondering What’s Next," which quoted Aaron’s commentary on the report’s significance for creators and rights holders.

"Entertainment attorney Aaron Moss, in his Copyright Lately blog, wrote, 'For creators and rights holders pushing back against unauthorized AI training, it offers a detailed—and often forceful—rebuttal to sweeping fair use defenses.'

He added that 'whether courts will adopt the Office’s reasoning—or whether the report will even remain official policy under new leadership—is very much an open question.'"
