About the panel... 

The current state of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives is at a critical juncture. Recent court decisions and policy changes have presented significant challenges to ongoing DEI efforts across industries and sectors, and it’s unclear and subject to much debate whether these initiatives can remain viable. From examining college campus and workplace cultures to assessing the impact of both local and national events on the legal community and our clients and business partners, this panel will delve into the myriad complexities of and potential future opportunities regarding DEI.

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Understanding some of the recent legal decisions and governmental policies impacting DEI.
  2. Discuss some of the questions being asked by corporate clients, such as the applicability of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act on DEI programs.
  3. DEI challenges being faced by law schools and the legal profession.
  4. Strategies to actively promote diversity in law schools and the legal professions.
  5. Discussion of ABA Model Rule of Professional Conduct 8.4(g) as it relates to unconscious bias, implicit bias and ethical duties.
  6. Relevancy of ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct.
