Steven Metalitz and Eric Schwartz Join MSK

LOS ANGELES, CA – Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP announced today that leading intellectual property attorneys Steven J. Metalitz and Eric J. Schwartz have joined the firm’s Washington, D.C. office as partners.

Steven J. Metalitz was formerly a name partner at Washington-based Smith & Metalitz LLP. He represents clients in the publishing, recording, motion picture, software, and e-commerce industries. Metalitz has worked with major coalitions of the copyright industry sector on key public policy issues, including the Creative Incentive Coalition, where he was involved in the drafting and enactment of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. He formerly served as the Senior Vice President of the International Intellectual Property Alliance and is currently President of the Intellectual Property Constituency of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Metalitz has taught copyright law at the George Washington University Law School and has published extensively on copyright and Internet law topics.

Eric J. Schwartz also joins Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp from Smith & Metalitz. His practice includes traditional copyright and emerging electronic information and delivery issues, commercial transactions, domestic and international copyright law and policy matters, litigation strategy, and Copyright Office practices. Schwartz has served as Acting General Counsel for the United States Copyright Office and as Vice President and Special Counsel to the International Intellectual Property Alliance. He is also the founding Director and a Board member of the National Film Preservation Foundation, and serves as pro bono Counsel to the Library of Congress’ National Film Preservation Board. Schwartz is an Adjunct Professor of Copyright Law at Georgetown University Law School.
